The Monsoon Ensemble
This triptych tells the story of the monsoon season in Delhi, my hometown. Before the rains start in June, Delhi like most of India gets very hot with temperatures soaring to more than 110 degrees. These high temperatures are accompanied by hot winds and dust storms. Everything looks like a different shade of brown. As the moisture laden winds from the Indian Ocean hit the Himalayas, they cause precipitation all over northern India bringing the much awaited rain. My grandmother made sure my siblings and I waited till the second shower to go out, get drenched and play after the first one had washed away all the pollution and dust. Once it starts pouring, it really pours. For days at end. During occasional breaks in the rain, the sky clears up a little revealing a bright sun and beautiful orange, purple and pink sunsets. All the trees and plants are bright green and the streets clean. Life is beautiful again.
